It was first introduced just after WW1 and built by Auto Ordnance, the company Mr Thompson founded, and was used primarily by civilians, criminals and law enforcement types. I have 2 1898's, one made in 1899 and the other in 1902. Neither have the wood issues you mention and I've never heard of it anywhere else. Bolts aren't marked either. It's not uncommon for a Krag in a complete but not perfect condition such as mine are, to bring $1000 or more here. [pic]http://www....

I guess I must be weird because I actually liked the C Rations...especially the chicken/turkey cans.

My Dad brought home a K ration box he had with him when he was shot in WW2. If you ever tried a K, you'll know that the C was heaven in comparison.
