Peter ; If it was'nt such a hassle between the pond to get it 'over here' I'd offer you a gorgeous 1911 SMLE marked to the KRR in swap. But I think it's found a good home - won't be turned into a lamp like some deac mullet head !.

When I run into a #29 rod I'll give you a shout.

Dunc ; I think you will find for the 98k rods - long or short , and the gew98 the thread is actually 4 x .7mm.

Pete ; A nice long lee in original trim is one scarce bird over on this side of the pond - more so than the gewehr !. You are darn lucky to have such good pickings !> The only thing that looks odd to me on the gew98 is the bolt looks very clean - and the receiver has the typical fine pitting. This u...

Peter ; I have a 1914 Amberg - it's regimental marked to the 13th Bavarian Inf Regt. It is matching wiht the exception of the bolt. If the rifle you show in the pics is honestly6 matching down to the bolt... I'd be a sucker and punch a grand at such a peice... I love regimental marked gew98's and 19...

Duncan ; Here in the US at least such a rifle is on the low end. To be precise being that it has been rebarreled and additionally stamped on the receiver it's collectability is all but gone. The stock set would be at least $220 worth of parts over here , but the action is pretty much scrap to a coll...

A very good looking gew98. Does the rod still match ?. What kind of bayonet did the rifle come home with ?. The only out of place thing is the 98k sling on it , unsightly but hard to find an original example these days. Am not so amazed that the 'museum' turned it down ( evil live shooter it is !). ...

Ian ; The triggerguards are post war czech , some of the Dou marked rifles are postwar assembly and manufacture as well. The czechs refurbished alot of former german 98k's with these triggerguards so you may find a wartime rifle so equipped and simply ditch the goofy guard and replace it with a wart...

The goofy loop triggerguard 98k's are ALL POSTWAR czech rebuilds....that is czech stamped triggerguards. The germans did not design nor produce these pregnant one peice triggerguards.
