Re: THE FIRST WORLD WAR as reported in the daily news

Wilson replies to Germany's acceptance of all of Wilson's Peace initiative proposal. But, now that the end is near, Wilson realizes there is no future in a easy peace. The allies want to win unconditionally and take their revenge with no negotiation. So.. he starts off telling the Germans now nice o...

Re: Random Meaningless Pictures-Lets See Them

I know you have seen that painting with the dogs sitting around a table playing cards, right? Well, I can't believe this painting is really hanging in the White House. I think it depicts the moment Teddy cuts a fart as a comment on what he thinks of it. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018...

Minolta Maxxum 5000i

I've had this one a while but never got around to shooting it. There is a better, and much more popular, Minolta 5000 without the "i" for "intelligent" and I have one of them I've never got around to shooting either. I was always getting a camera that I was more fascinated with a...

Re: THE FIRST WORLD WAR as reported in the daily news

Germany is looking for a way out of the war that isn't going to be as harsh a peace as the nations that fought against them and lost tremendously large numbers of people would certainly impose. But Wilson also knows that his allies want Germany to totally surrender without condition. https://chronic...

Re: French wine in an American grocery store

Well, that's a surprise. I'd have thought they may have been wines for American consumption with fancy French writing on the label. Now that Fat Bastard wine really surprises me as being reasonably respectable. By the way, the grocery chain is Rouse headquartered in New Orleans. New Orleans is known...

French wine in an American grocery store

Duncan... have any idea about what kind of quality any of these are? They are supposed to be French wines. I think, since they are sold in a grocery store, that they are wines for wino's more than Oenophiles but what do I know. I would think the real wine people would buy their wine from a specializ...

January 4, 1970

My daughter told me about how I could access old newspapers from my home town online through the Mobile Public Library. So I picked a date. I picked January 4, 1970. That's the date I arrived in Vietnam. I went to the editorial page and read this piece by Russell Kirk. Kirk was a leading wise man of...

Hope that thing works in making the transfer. One thing about desk tops that beats laptops is that if your keyboard gets critically abused you can just toss it and get another one and don't ruin the actual computer parts. Good luck.

Deer hunting season starts in another week or so. Don't like standing in lines to shoot ammo at the range so this is no range season.

Nikon N90

Nikon was getting it's butt kicked by Canon in the start of the 1990's. Canon's noticeably faster auto focus with the new EOS system had Nikon on the ropes as professional photographers that had always been loyal started drifting away. The F4 professional system wasn't up to the fast focusing Canon ...

Re: THE FIRST WORLD WAR as reported in the daily news

General Pershing addressed 6000 black troops who were stevedores. Somehow I don't think, if he could be transported in time to today, that he could address a large black audience and brag that he had been raised by a "colored mammy" and get much applause. https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov...

The DeHavilland 4 is the American WWI plane of choice

Saw this story in the paper of a hundred years ago. Apparently the British design DeHavilland became the American plane of choice. They made them in the US with a US design engine. Here is a WWI war movie that shows how one was built and then broken down into shipping pieces. Hand made and low tech ...

Yashica Minister D rangefinder

I noticed this on on Ebay before and it expired before getting any bids. Then I noticed it relisted with a starting bid of $1. A "different" rangefinder. It was introduced in 1963 as the fourth in a series. The others were I,II,III, so when this one came along they thought they would call ...
