Re: Our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and an SMLE.....

What we Yorkshire folk call Mucky Fat.
It was always spread on bread and offered free on the bar at the local pub on Sunday morning with a salt pot and fresh sliced onions in malt vinegar.

To give you an idea of a previous camera and it's results, this was taken with a Canon 350D using a Canon 18-55 mm lens on 16 May 2009. The camera had 8 megapixels. BULLS-ROAD-FLERS.jpg The same image but processed in Nik collection software only recently available. WALLFLOWERS.jpg This shows that s...

Re: Armi San Paolo Remington 1858 New Army

On nipple wrenches, they can never be too substantial and the best system is where the nipple has a square "drive". Common nipples can be squared and a suitable wrench made. I found an interesting, though somewhat pricey site. https://www.peterdyson.co.uk/acatalog/NIPPLES.html I went to s...

Re: Armi San Paolo Remington 1858 New Army

Robert and I will always agree to differ on weight V volume but it it an irrefutable fact that a grain is a unit of weight and not volume in spite of what Sam says! I finally came down on the weight side of the fence after becoming seriously involved in British Black Powder loads for my Snider &...

Re: Armi San Paolo Remington 1858 New Army

You can weigh all of your powder, but there is no discernable difference in results over a powder measure....according to Sam Fadala.

The advantage is guaranteed consistency of charge weight plus much less faff when loading the chamber :)

Re: Armi San Paolo Remington 1858 New Army

Personally I wouldn't bother with a caper and I would not use a flask. Contrary to general belief powder is measured in grains and that is a measure of weight not volume.......... 1 grain = 0.000142857 lbs / 0.06479891 grams. I always measured my charges into plastic tubes BEFORE going to the range ...

Re: Armi San Paolo Remington 1858 New Army

When I had my 1858 (Pietta) I found the 2 things of most help were a bench loader and larger hand grips ( both made myself) bench.jpg GRIPS.jpg The bench loader make it much easier to load a consistant pressure and it also makes it much easier to mount the caps. The hand grips on my Pietta, as you c...

College Grad..........

A young man hired by a supermarket reported for his first day of work. The manager greeted him with a warm handshake and a smile, gave him a broom and said, “Your first job will be to sweep out the store.” “But I’m a college graduate,” the young man replied indignantly. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know...
