I've been finding old walnut furniture at garage sales, even at the dump.
I can make at least one or two handguards out of a table leg.

Cavalry carbine nose caps.
I have been lucky enough to find a few sportered cavalry carbines over the years. All good shooters and all potential restorations. Finding replacement parts isn't easy. Almost impossible in fact. So I tried my hand at stock making and built a wood duplicator. So stock problem solved, I now had to f...

Re: I was gifted some 303
Old ammo is getting pretty collectable theses days (it always was) so it does not make good sense to shoot it off unless you have a bucket load of it. It is often worth more as collectable. Some cartridges can bring premium prices, sometimes hundreds of dollars for one rare round. It is worth resear...

A neat enough job that doesn't look out of place. Well done.

Worth more than 18c per round these days.
Providing the ammo has been kept cool and dry, it should be fine.
A buddy gave me some 100 year old gallery rounds. I have shot of about a dozen, and every one went bang.

Don't use oak for the patch. use walnut. The oak grain is very different and will stand out like a soar thumb.
If you don't have an old stock to cut a chunk of walnut, I can send you some.

Re: SAS sniper 'kills Isil suicide bombers from a kilometre'
Perhaps we will never know the details. And, not forgetting where we read this. Probably enhanced a bit to make good press. Maybe he used a special electronic sighted high caliber assault sniper rifle loaded with supersonic guided dum dum bullets from a kilometer away. But who knows. There could hav...

I don't understand your point, Niner.
Snipers spend most of their time watching. Hours, days or weeks could pass before taking the shot. A building wall is no protection.

I'm still a lurker, still lurking in the shadows.
