An Admiralty Fleet Order went out on 22 October 1936 restricting the issue of cutlasses, which had until that point been standard equipment for landing parties of sailors. Thanks Duncan I never even thought of an smg, now that you say the mag is visible just behind the grenade.

I visited the Berwick Barracks museum this weekend, dedicated to the Kings Own Scottish Borderers. Amongst the displays this foto caught my eye. The butt and foresight / guard look like a No.4 but the forend wood and possibly a pistol grip look unusual. The only info about the pic said it was a mort...
