Re: The evil that was
The official view of Calley was he acted on his own, that he was a best a mediocre officer. In his rather lame and unelightening memoirs Westmoreland says he has "compassion" for calley, writing that the responsibilities of being an officer were too much for him, but then he repeats the Pa...

Re: The evil that was
I was in the Army when the My Lai story broke after 18 months of succesful coverup. William Calley was the ONLY officer convicted , the company commander, Ernest Medina, the brigade commander, Oran K. Henderson, were both acquitted, charges against all the other officers involved were dismissed. My ...

Re: Lord Louis Mountbatten’s Side Arms......
Yes, it's been over 30 years since he was sent to his Maker. The Colt M1908 in .380 ACP was the issued sidearms to general officers in the US Army in WWII, I wonder if the one shown was a presentation piece?

Re: 1911...wait,whut?
I wouldn't go so far as to describe a Colt Commander with a four letter word but I agree it's a poor choice for a first handgun. Don't care for aluminum frames myself, years ago when I was in the National Guard an NCO had a Colt Commander, I had a Combat Commander with the steel frame, it seems ever...

One thing I liked about being stationed in Germany 1970-1971 was the Bundesbahn, it seemed you could getlamot anywhere. "Geht's besser mit der Bahn."

Join the Club, it's been months for me as well. A combination of helping friends renovate their houses, another lady friend, helping a couple of families cope with the loss of a loved one. Life gets complicated.

Re: December 7th - Lest We Forget
HMS Dreadnought was the first "all big gun" battleship. It had wing turrets. I am pretty sure the US pioneered the use of centerline turrets and superimposed turrets.

Re: December 7th - Lest We Forget
The first picture is of the USS West Virginia-there was no dreadnought battleship USS Virginia. One of the ironies that only 5 ships were destroyed-the Arizona, the Oklahoma, and 3 destroyers-the old battleship Utah was a target ship. The machinery from one of the destroyers was salvaged for use in ...

Excellent. I lucked upon a 10/44 one in 2000, then the bayonet. Confess I still haven't fired it.
