Man drove through hail of bullets into US airbase.......

A US Airforce base in Suffolk suffered a major security breach when a driver forced his way through the main security checkpoint. American military guards opened fire as the car travelled a significant way inside RAF Mildenhall after passing through a hail of bullets - stopping just metres short of...

Re: Leather cleaning question

Well, I made a start...........
I put it on an old towel and used an electric paint stripper to blow hot air over it. The grease liquefied and I wiped it off with paper towels. I then sprayed it with Ballistol and have left it to soak in for a day.

Re: THE FIRST WORLD WAR THREAD.

Says it all really Robert.........The American military were woefully unprepared for war on the scale of the Great War even though they had been 'supporting' the Allies. Unfortunately the actual moves made toward full involvement seem, from your paper posts, to have been made by poorly informed poli...

Re: Case ID?

Ummmm. I don't know where or who made the plane but it could have been my Grandfather. He served in WWI in Gallipoli and in France and was Mentioned in Dispatches. He was a very handy type and owned a revolver so could have made it after the war I suppose. http://yoursmiles.org/msmile/flag/Portugal....

Case ID?

While photographing various items of my Mothers before offering them for sale I came across this piece of WWI art.
It would appear to be made from rifle cases and the wheels look like rimless case ends. Can anyone ID the maker, obviously not .303 British!

Also from the Daily Telegraph............ "Doug Jones, the Democrat who pulled off a stunning upset victory in Alabama's nail-biter Senate contest on Tuesday, is considered a champion for civil rights in a state that played a seminal role in the 1960s movement for racial equality. Mr Jones' sup...

"Roy Moore has lost his fight to be elected to the Senate in Alabama, beaten by Doug Jones, his Democrat rival, after a campaign dominated by accusations against Mr Moore of sexual assault of children. The result was a big blow to President Donald Trump, who had gone against the advice of his i...

Leather cleaning question

I just received a scabbard for my 1907 pattern SMLE bayonet. It is covered in grease - not cosmolene as far as I can see, but there is a lot of it! I would really appreciate any guidance on cleaning this stuff off and then treating the leather so it doesn't deteriorate. https://farm5.staticflickr.co...
