Toyo Kogyo Type 99

Post by PeterN2 » Sat Feb 02, 2008 2:12 pm

I had a visit to a dealer today and looked over his stock. Among the rifles I saw, was a series 34 TK Type 99, 4 digit serial number. It matched the description in MROJ for buttplate, sights and barrel band.

The bolt was matching numbers, the chrysanthemum was ground. It was missing the cleaning rod. I couldn't make up my mind if the stock was the original finish or not. The markings were there so it was not sanded. It looked a bit redder than my series 2 Nogoya. The bore wasn't too bad. Am I right in thinking that this would be about a 1944 production date?

I am tempted to phone him up and say I will have it. The price is high by US standards, but you see very few in the UK.

I did put a deposit on a Model 1941 Carcano.

Regards

Are you getting it Peter?

I would also be interested in seeing the Carcano when you get it.

I phoned him up and said I would have the Arisaka as well as the Carcano. I am sending off for the variations tomorrow. I put that off for a week or so to complete the deal on a .455 Colt New Service that I am buying. I got that tonight so paperwork off to Mr Plod tomorrow. I think I am going to need two jobs to pay for this lot.

Regards

Peter.

Peter, the 34 is much redder than a Nagoya 2. Here is my 34 on the bottom and a S 2 on top. roy

I wasn't sure about the reddish colour being original. I am now waiting for the paperwork and I will then be able to compare when I get it.

Peter.
