Newbie from New York

Post by NLMosin » Wed Jan 14, 2015 12:41 pm

Hello All,

I heard about these forums from dhtaxi (Dave). I just recently caught Mosin-itus. Pretty bad case actually. I bought a 91/30 from one of the big Sporting Goods stores here and was intending to sport it out a bit. I bought it sight unseen online and was pleasantly pleased to open the box and find a 1929 Izhevsk hex all matching numbers. It has the space under the rear sight which I'm lead to believe means ex-Dragoon. It also has the wartime front sight. Looks like I'll leave that one alone.

I was so taken by it that this last weekend I bought an M44 at a local gun show. This one is the garden variety Izhevsk 1944 model. Nothing special there. But it did get the juices flowing even more so I purchased yet another 91/30 online from the same source as my first one in hopes to find something interesting in the box again.

Im also waiting for my crate of 880 rounds to come so I can send some down range. Looking forward to chatting with other Mosiniacs!

Nick

Welcome to the site MLMosin. We appreciate dhtaxi pointing it out to you. The Mosin Nagant is probably the most popular milsurp there is...in the US particularly. We have a few really serious Mosin people at this site as you will notice.

If the fever gets to be a regular thing you might want to invest in a Curio and Relic license for some more discounted pricing and delivery options. I take it you are from New York state and not city.. so the laws where you live may be C&R friendly.

Old people love the 91/30. Front sight is waaay out there. If the 44 is a good one and not counterbored it will be accurate as hell.

I had never heard of a Curio and Relic license, I'm kinda new to this whole thing. I will definitely look into that! Thanks! I'm from Upstate NY. We are the ones whose tax dollars pay to keep them in NYC going...

The M44 is not counter bored...I'm looking forward to shooting it this weekend. The 91/30 has a case of the sticky-bolt...have to spend some time cleaning that one before I can shoot that one.

Thanks for the welcome!
