I finally did it.

This is where to ask questions and offer experiences about the art and science of ammunition building. Also observations about any acquired ammo.

I finally did it.

Postby PeterN2 » Tue Apr 10, 2018 4:05 pm

After over 30 years of reloading, I have got a case stuck in the sizing die for the first time. It didn't pick enough lube from the pad and I put too much pressure on the press handle and the shell holder pulled through the rim when I tried to raise the handle. A friend is going to drill and tap the case head and hopefully pull it out for me. I am very annoyed with myself for doing this. Hopefully, I won't do it again.
Regards
Peter.

Probably wouldn't happen again in a million years. I pretty much gave up on the lube pad. But...maybe now I'll take heed.

Which calibre was it Peter ? My carcano was a twat for that until I changed shell holders, I am still very careful with it even so.
I went over to finger lubing years ago btw, labour intensive I know but so is all my handloading, single stage presses etc....

It was 7.65mm. I had run some .30-06 cases through the RCBS form and trim die to cut to length and was putting them through the 7.65mm sizing die to finish them off. I roll the cases on piece of foam rubber from a 7.62mm ammo can that I put some RCBS case lube on. I just didn’t roll the case properly to pick up the lube. I will be more careful in future.

Peter.

I got my die back from my friend all good with case removed. Hopefully I won’t need his services again.

Peter.
