Any ideas.........

This is where to ask questions and offer experiences about the art and science of ammunition building. Also observations about any acquired ammo.

Any ideas.........

Postby Niner Delta » Thu Jan 14, 2016 8:28 pm

I have 86 rounds of surplus 7.65x53(or 54) Argy ammo I need to get rid of. Bought it for my 1891
Argentine Mauser carbine, and it is not good. Pulled a few apart and they are green inside the case
and the base of the bullet. After I bought them I found out this is very common in this bunch of surplus.
So here is my problem, I don't know how to get rid of them. Sure, I could do something dumb like throw
them in the garbage or drive out in the woods and scatter them among the trees, but I would prefer
to find a more practical way. So I am open to any suggestions you all may come up with. Am reluctant to
take them to police dept., they don't need to know what I have. Also, if anyone on these forums here
could use them for parts or even shoot them, I would be willing to mail them to you free, although not
sure about shipping overseas as I am not sure of price and legality. I don't know if anything can be salvaged.
The photos show what I found inside them, although the powder was not damp or clumped together.
Any thoughts.........??

Put them in a bag, mark it ' found in house clearance' and put it in the local fire department mail box when it's dark.......

Vern,

Just go down to the Bay and scatter 'em in the briny, the salt water will soon take care of them; take a bit of bread with you and kid to be feeding the fishes.

You might go back to whomever you bought them from and raise some hell. And if they won't give you your money back settle for any offer they may make. You can't just toss them in the garbage because that could cause some legal problems if they are discovered and traced to you.

You could take them with you to the range on a busy day and offer them to reloaders for the bullets...and maybe have some pay your range fees in gratitude or let you shoot some of their rifles with their ammo..

Pull the bullets, dump the powder and put a couple drops of oil or a squirt of WD-40 down the case to kill the primer. Then you can give the bullets to a reloader or throw them in the trash. The brass can go in a scrap brass collection or in the trash.

The big problem with buying surplus military ammo is you have no way of knowing how or where its been stored. POF (Pakistani) .303 has a horrible reputation for being poorly stored. Greek 303 is worth its weight in gold. I would be suspect of south American surplus mostly because it's a hot, humid climate with government organizations not known for efficiency and incorruptibility.

I got them cheap from local gun store that has since closed when they retired.
The range I go to only has one 50 yd lane, and the one lane is seldom used, so I shoot in the woods.
Don't really want to go to fire dept. or police...........video cameras.
I didn't really want to mess with taking them apart, but it may come down to that.

Like I said before, if anyone here wants them, I'll send them to you FREE!!!........ :D

Mailing ammo is probably not a good idea without making declarations of content as ammo and "hazardous" material. And there will be an extra charge for that too.

Maybe just take it to the range. They must have some arrangement for disposing of misfires and cases ..etc.

According to Google Earth, it is 3.4 miles from my house to the salt water, but still doubt if I will
throw them in....... :D
They don't take up much room, so maybe some idea will pop up, not in a great hurry......
