Importation of collector ammunition from country to country

Postby Mauser-MAS45 » Mon Jan 04, 2010 3:30 am

I don't know if this the right section of this great forum, for this question, but here it goes. I recently came across a web site in France that had .22 cal ammo in original boxes for the French MAS 45 . My question, is there any legal way to import this ammo to United States. I am talking about 2-3 boxes of 50 rounds, not cases or pallets. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..... Bob. chickenman45@msn.com

I wanted to buy some British ammo for a double rifle my father owned, a .400/.360 Westley Richards 2.75 Nitro Express. I found some ammo for it in England, and wanted to buy it along with some Rook rifle ammo. There is a type of FFL licensee that can do this for you, but they need an import permit also, which is rather expensive.

Look around for someone with the right type of FFL, I believe it is a Type 8:

Importation of small ammunition into the United States is regulated by the ATF under 27CFR178.115 and 120. Authorization for importation is obtained through an approved importation permit (Form 6 Part I/ATF F 5330.3A or From 6 NIA/ATF F 5330.3D http://www.atf.treas.gov/forms/5000.htm#firearms). For information on import permits contact the ATF at (202) 927-8320.
Small arms ammunition is regulated by 49CFR173.56 (which can be found through http://hazmat.dot.gov) and is hazmat classification code 1.4S (UN Code 0014). 49 CFR 173.63 is available at http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/12feb20041500/ edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2004/octqtr/pdf/49cfr173.63.pdf

The easiet part of importing the ammo is going to be gettng the ATF permit.

Finding a carrier to bring it in is going to be the hardest part. And once found, expensive.

You are probably better off hiring a broker to do the import for you. Here are the onesI have listed onthe Martini Link list.
