Some Chinese 7.62X54 71 55 ammo on chargers

Postby Krull » Sun Feb 07, 2010 9:29 am

If you look back to Mosin section you'll recall I said I saw a Chinese Mosin about fifteen years ago,and that I bought fifteen rounds of what I took to be Chinese 7.62X54 on brass chargers, well here it is:

I've tried the chargers and they work well,a bit stiff but the sporter does have a broken spring so it may be easier when I fix that
I dunno what to do with the ammo shoot it? save it?? go stick it up Mao's dead butt???

I thought it may be of some interest to you guys who want to see odd ammo,I don't believe Chinese 7.62X54 has been brought in for a long while.

If you decide to shoot it make sure you clean the gun straight away afterwards the primers are probably corrosive.

I've been popping off some, what I believe is,Polish stuff to try the gun out;to make my life as easy as I can I thought long and hard about how to clean that gunk out with as little fuss as I could.

And I found it-black powder cleaning solvent,I got a bottle of Hoppe's No 9 plus for black powder and I've shot a twenty round packet of the corrosive stuff and cleaned with the BP cleaner with zero problems.

Just swab the barrel until the patch comes out semi-clean,a few passes with a bore brush with more solvent, patches again with solvent until it comes out clean,a couple dry patches, oil and zammo no rust,no fuss :D

Never had any trouble with cleaning up after surplus ammo. I've had trouble with 7.62x54r surplus ammo in some respects, but no problems with cleaning the rifle afterward.

Here is a link to some Chinese ammo. Looks like your 71 55 is represented.

Saw that Niner, that's where I identified it,but here's what's odd:that 71/55 is shown with armor piercing/incendiary bullets,no way in the nine hells mine has that kind of bullet!

Did they just put up the wrong picture,or is it the Chinese just load different bullets?

...........

I need to go shoot a one or two

The Chinese brass chargers are rather brittle

Postby NuJudge » Sun Feb 07, 2010 3:38 pm

The Chinese brass chargers will snap if you compress the lips in any way. I would recommend you store them loaded. Other than their fragility, I would rank them best for functioning right after the old stock Finnish ones with a Stainless-like finish and the little finger on the ends (not to be confused with the recent Steel Chinese ones with the little fingers on the ends, but a blotchy surface).

The case shows arsenal and date but not bullet type.
