Ammo pouch

Post by PeterN2 » Sun Mar 27, 2011 2:17 pm

This came my way recently. It is a small pouch, presumeably for revolver ammo. I has the name of the former owner, Lt. W H Cooper written on it.

Regards
Peter.

I would think it is WW1 vintage. It looks it, anyway. It was in the club armoury and has been there for decades. There is also a WW1 revolver holster in there, but I don't know if they belong together. The holster is not marked with a name.

:GBR:

Hi ,

In my club armoury I found a Parker Hale canvas rifle slip , it grieved me to see it laying on the floor covered in dirt and damp so I rescued it , It is the same period as my rifles and othe PH accessories so it lives another day .

Nice collection of rifles. I would like a vintage .22 target rifle. One of our club members plinks with a BSA 12/15. He is talking of selling it and getting something with a telecope as he has trouble with seeing iron sights now he is the wrong side of fifty.

Regards
Peter.

The pouch appears to be the revolver ammunition pouch from a set of "Sam Browne" equipment - If so then the Great War or the decade immediately following would almost certainly the last time such an item was carried in anger (by later wars officers had shifted to web equipment, like the men).
It seems possible (even probable) that if the holster mentioned is also of "Sam Browne" pattern, the two are a pair.
