I like WD40. It takes the surface stuff off pretty quickly. Other than that a nice range trip to heat the barrel up and boil the stuff out of the stock works pretty good too.

I put the 'stuff' in a large plastic bag, insert the stock fully in the litter than lay in the sun.. 'till dun! It does not dryout, warp, or dammage the wood and the excessive cosmo leaks out into the 'stuff'!

I too have not yet had a rifle covered in cosmo. But I have had the odd piece of furniture heavily soaked in cosmo and this is the easiest method from my point of view. Changing the kitty litter is the only work required and I can still put it out for the cat later. Although the cat doesn't seem to use it much.

Take it down to the Armoury and get the Armourer to put it through the Tri-chloro-ethylene tank. Takes it all out in a couple of minutes, along with all the oil and any of those annoying paint markings, designating special purposes, that the military love to put on rifles.

See, simple. That's why I voted other.

Can't do that in this country. TCE has been outlawed in this country since the 70s. Substitute is 1,1,1 Trichloroethane.

I use a small heat gun/steamer.

Haven't been able to do it for years up here either. Same reason.

But, gee ,it was good and especially good for a cold in the head... one good whiff over the tank and the head cleared like magic.

Wonder what it did to our heads?
