Leather softening

I have an original Arisaka sling that is so dry it is like a piece of wood. I'm trying to find some ideas on how to save it.
So far I've found suggestions for neatsfoot oil and castor oil.
Any other secrets????

Thanks,

Dean

Dean,

I'd try something like 'Oakwood' which is an Australian made leather condtioner that is sold worldwide.
There are a lot of preparations though and most are good if they've been around for a few years.
Try your local saddler, he's in the game.

I've had good results using lanolin.

I softened a new holster using harness oil which smells a bit like Neatsfoot. The secret is TIME  Any dry leather needs the moisture to be put back and the slower it is done the better I would say.
