Re: THE BEST LAID PLANS....................
Duncan I wish I could help you out here.
I do cast bullets myself for my Dutch Beaumont and Swiss Vetterli, but as a lube I use Lee Alox.
Works great for me.
I will keep following this thread just because it interests me and I'm eager to learn.
I hope it will all work out for you soon.
Met vriendelijke groet,
Martin

Re: THE BEST LAID PLANS....................
I use Aloxon my Enfield cast bullets and they are fine but I have been told that Alox is not a good thing to use on BP bullets, don't know why.

Re: THE BEST LAID PLANS....................
I don't know either Duncan.
Been using Alox for quit some time now and haven't experienced any problems so far.
The only thing that I have learned about Alox is that the lead builds up real fast in your barrel when you use too little of it.
Here's a picture of some 340 gn .457 Dutch Beaumont bullets that I casted some time ago.
Results on the range were great.

Re: THE BEST LAID PLANS....................
Dunc,
Try about 50% beeswax and 50% arachide (peanut) oil - and yes, panlubing will work - your lube just needs the right consistency and you need to wait long enough (just a bit warmer than room temp). Put the bullets in a pan (pie tin, whatever,...) and pour the molten lube in till the grease grooves are covered. then the hardest part - wait... Long enough for the lube to set up , and release from the sides of the tin. Remove the lube cake from the tin (a silicone baking form is even better) and just push the bullets out with your thumb. tip of the week - seat the lube cake with bullets on a folded towel, and push the bullet nose to get it started out. The rest will be easy... You just need to experiment a bit in order to get the lube to the right consistency.
