Cannon shoot
Our club has just started an interesting new discipline on our indoor range last night, shooting scale model cannons. Five of us turned up for the inaugural event and it was an evening of education and entertainment.
The three cannons we were shooting were all .69 caliber and fed on blackpowder and ball. It is only a 15m range and the accuracy of these models was actually surprising.
A few pics of the proceedings.....
The owner got into the spirit of things wearing a Confederate artillery kepi....
A little Ardesa made model...

Now that's interesting. What keeps the guns from flying backward when fired? That packing twine run around the back end of that Naval gun all that's needed?
That 12 pounder Napoleon... the guy only has his hands cupped. I'd of thought there would be more blow back with the gun on wheels.

Re: Cannon shoot
Looks like a great night Joe.
I have been thinking about an Ardesa one http://www.ardesa.com/en/productos.php?wgo=28 but a club night, that looks like fun

Re: Cannon shoot
Robert, the recoil wasn't as bad as I was expecting and the bigger guns simply roll back into your cupped hands with no problem at all.
The baling twine on the smaller lighter model was just added security I think.
I was just basically watching and learning from the guys who have shot cannon before, this is all new and interesting ground for me.
Duncan, cheers for the link to the Ardesa page, I think those little cannon's are a cheap way to get started in this game.

Re: Cannon shoot
After yesterdays 45 acp shoot I went back to the club in the evening for another couple of hours shooting with the cannon again.
What a fun day it was.
