M44 7.62X54Rwith a nice clean barrel and blued metal
Had a gift certificate and was burning a hole in my pocket. I load for the MN91 so will try some of my cast bullet loads in this rifle. Bore is still showing some "dirt" despite being scrubbed by brush,JB Bore Cleaning Compound, Hoppes 9 plus to remove any old corrosive salts and fouling.I am soaking overnight to try and remove any of the embedded metal fouling and continue till I get a nice surface for cast bullets to shoot thru...Any pointers from someone shooting one of these.afish4570

The M44 should be a fun to shoot. Seems to me you have cleaned up the bore pretty good already. We have a number of cast bullet shooters here who will be waiting for a report when you get around to shooting it. Maybe some of them have some experience with the M44 and cast bullets they can share.

Bore Cleaning on the M44 is still on going....
Tried Hoppe, old fashioned), J&B Nonembedding Bore Compound ( I think Brownels has the product), new 8mm bronze brush,Shooters Choice, Hoppes 9plus (black powder bore solvent) to get any corrosive salts out that I may have uncovered,a few hours of soaking with Hoppes Elite (the latest), some British stuff called 303 for a few hours and now Ballistol for 2 hrs. In between I used the lead removing cloth by G96 (other brands are avail.) Lead removing cloth is actually alittle abrasive and supposed to really scour the lead and junk out of a boreThis in turn came out pitch black. The bore really looks good to the naked eye and is in nice shape. How clean is clean??Don't know what metal is used in the ammo fired thru this gun. Not sure of the country of origin either. The serial is 4kXXXXr (not a English type r but a cyrillic type mark. Best description I can give. Anyone else have any other ideas?? I still have a few more solvents to try KleenBore #10, Prolix,WW11 GI,Dillon Bore Cleaner,Kroil,Ezskock (sp)afish4570
M44 barrel still dirty
Soaked with household ammonia for 18 hrs. and scrubbed again. Still showing black on patches after scrubbing with bore brush. Soaking now with Hoppes Elite to continue the quest.afish4570 Midhudson valley....
