Britain is going to do what?

Britain is going to do what?

Postby Niner » Wed Jul 26, 2017 10:07 am

Britain is to ban all new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2040 amid fears that rising levels of nitrogen oxide pose a major risk to public health.

Well... they have 23 years to get there so maybe they can do it. What about lawn mowers, bulldozers, motorboats and such that also run on gas or diesel? Should we invest in solar panels or batteries or both? Or maybe.....oxcarts, shoemakers, rotary push mowers, shovels and sail makers are the things to invest in.

Although the way technology is advancing exponentially, we may all be in electric or something
not invented yet, cars by then. Doubtful I'll still be here in 23 years, at the age of 93..............

Vern, I bought a new truck recently. I traded in my last truck of model 2005, also bought new, with about 40,000 on the clock. I figure this one will last me until I'm dead or in one of those places they put people that are senile or a danger to the general population if driving around. Might be good to have one of those vehicles that do the driving for you one day...if I can remember the address of where I want to go. Probably put in hospital emergency room as save one. Like you ...another 23 years is wishful thinking.

There are plenty of people past 90 driving in the US. The only problem is that many people as they get past the average life span don't recognize when they have lost the physical ability to see and notice things like stop signs and limiting traffic conditions. This is to say nothing of motor skills or the encroachment of senility that leaves them sometimes wondering why they started off to go one place and ended up someplace else. I know a few such people, although none of them are me... yet. I don't think, anyway.

There are a lot of retired people around the town I live in............

"I've sure gotten old. I've had 2 by-pass surgeries. A hip replacement, new knees.
Fought prostate cancer, and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear
anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make
me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have
poor circulation, hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if
I'm 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But........
Thank God, I still have my driver's license!"
