I was not able to read the article linked, mainly because I was not prepared to spend so much time trying to digest it all.
I would say, however, that I personally think that both sides of the argument deserve all the grief that they get. NEITHER side is prepared to consider the others grievances - both sides go out of their way to antagonize the other - both sides claim the ritual high ground - neither side is prepared to listen to the other - both sides are responsible for gratuitous violence.
Nothing is going to sort out this mess until BOTH SIDES are prepared to sit down and talk to each other without any pre-conditions.
Until then they both deserve the grief that they are currently suffering.................

I'm sure there are "bad actors" enough on the Palestinian side. I agree that the larger Palestinian problem, beyond the Gaza Strip which is where the killing is at the moment, and creation of a separate Palestinian state could be better off settled by open and fair negotiation between the people involved. My concern is..... should the US support the recent, and apparently continuing, slaughter of captives of Gaza because of unquestioned loyalty to Israel?
