Actually.... I have two military compasses with "tritiated" paint on markers inside the glass and on the compass arrow. Had one in Vietnam back in 1970 and I haven't died yet.

My old Army compass that they "gave" me in Ft. Sill, is a "Compass, M2 (Nonmaintainable) " and has
none of that stuff in it. At least there are no markings on it.
It is a dedicated Artillery compass as it is marked in 6400 mils instead of 360 degrees.
