NEW PROJECT.......................

Post by DuncaninFrance » Wed Dec 24, 2014 5:23 pm

...............for 2015.

Going to buy another BP rifle I hope. Question is which one of the following to look for;

Enfield Snider Mk.III
or
Martini Henry Mk. IV

Both require brass cases ( although you can shoot ball with the Snider using a plastic 24g shotgun carse )

Apparently Magtech 24g brass is the right size for fabrication on the cases although the Snider is easier to make as it is .577" instead of .450" .

Any thoughts gents? :razz: :razz:

Duncan,

The Snider is fun to shoot and is the logical (?? :roll: ) next step up from the Enfield and you already have a mould.

I like the Martini Henry Mk. IV, I have one with the long lever and while I haven't shot it in 10 years it was fun to shoot, I still have about 35 rounds of kynoch .577/450 for it but I am saving it for now since ammo is a pain to find and expensive. ( about $90.00/20 rounds)

Decision is made for a Snider.
I just found some Magtech 24g brass (10 pieces) on my local gun auction site and so bought them. They are like hens teeth here! Henry Krank are offering Bertram cases at £4.60 each / €5.90 / $7.16 plus postage :shock:
I have been in contact with a guy called Martyn Robinson at X-Ring Services in the States who has offered 50 off sized brass for $116.78 which makes each case $2.43 / €1.93 / £1.50 ;)

Well here we go!

The brass just arrived.
_MG_2550.jpg
I have now ordered;
A new press to take 1¼ - 12 dies c/w a colette to take normal rifle dies.
A .6 round ball mold
200 24g primed shotshell hulls

All I need now is a Snider :roll: :roll:
