The SMLE is one of the few service rifles, or any rifle, that has a built-in wrecker of forends, in the square on the end of the stock bolt.

I was writing about this on another forum and remembered that when it was discussed on here that one of the earlier carbines had the same feature, but I can't remember which.

Can anyone remember and jog my memory?

Non of the LMC or LEC series of carbines use the square end bolt and keeper plate.

Some late MLE rifles did use such a set up. They are usually marked with a '2' on right hand side of forearm just in front of the butt socket, and also marked on the right butt stock wrist.
