Bisley Armistice Shoot

I went to Bisley over the weekend to take part in the Armistice Shoot to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of The Great War. There were five matches shot and a sixth being the aggregate of the five that were shot. I ended up in 35th place out of 115 completed entries. The matches were shot at 200 yards on Century range, targets 71 to 100 being used. Entry was limited to 120 and the idea was for as many people as possible to use a service rifle from that period, preferably an SMLE but other arms were permitted. As it turned out, about 115 SMLEs were on the line plus a Lebel, a G98 Mauser and a couple of other rifles. Some were dressed in the uniform of the day, the Lebel user turned out in full French uniform and looked very smart. I did not get a photo of him though. The G98 Mauser user was also in full uniform complete with spiked helmet. The main attraction of the day was a firing demonstration of a Vickers machine gun. He went through nearly 2000 rounds of ammo and the gun got very hot. The ammo was a mixture of HXP and PPU. I'm glad I wasn't paying for it.
A few pics of the day.

On the range at 7am. A bit misty.

We had to take our turn marking targets. I had target 80 on Century range.

I have a bit of video of the Vickers in action, but don't know how to post it here.

A very good day it was.

Peter.

Good post Peter. Glad you took the time. That "rapid shooting" target looks a big unfathomable. What are the two wedges for?

The target is designed to confuse. I shot a bit low and got 2x5, 3x4 and 5x3. The course of fire for all the matches is attached.

Joe, yes I was using an SMLE though mine is a BSA dispersal rifle made in 1942 and not of WW1 vintage. The bayonet I used is dated 1917 so that was of the correct age.

Peter.

I sold my 1911 MkIII a while ago Peter, I only have my CLLE Volunteer now, it being the only .303 I now own since selling my P14 recently.
My shooting abilities are definitely on the downward slope these days, though I am still shooting the HARC miniature leagues again this season despite my dismal results last year, after all it's good fun. :D

I am shooting in the HARC league in the standing deliberate. I came second in division 3 last time using my Mossberg M42-B lend-lease rifle. I don't think I will be appearing in division 1 any time soon. As you say, a bit of fun and also an excuse to get the old rifles to the range.

Peter.
