1942 Savage No.4 Mk.I* Rifle.

Post by TomcatPC » Sat Apr 16, 2011 11:23 pm

Hello
This is the first Lee-Enfield Rifle I bought. I got this at Turpin Guns in Anchorage, Alaska for $100 (U.S.) back in 2000 after I got my PDF check. It was also "sporterised" when I got it and I tried to get it back to what it should have looked like back in 1942. Someone drilled the action body for a telescopic sight mount, so it is messed up, but it is just fine for shooting and using in reenacting.
Thanks
Mark

I got one about like yours in 1998 for the same price.

Noticed your slings in the Enfield photos. Are all of them "original", or at least of the right age? I got some new surplus slings for a few of mine. Mine are green instead of the more correct for the period tan.

Hello
I can't tell by the photo, but is your sling nylon webbing or canvas webbing? I got two of my slings from Numrich/ Gun Parts Corp. One of them turned out to be British made Mills Equipment Co. and the other was Canadian made, but was too far gone to tell any markings, so I use that one for reenacting and have "blanco'ed" it.
I also got a sling from a company that caters to reenactors called "Bayonet Inc.". I think I paid around $10 for it. They advertised it as used, it turned out to be "unissued" or almost unissued. But it had no markings that I could read and had steel fittings instead of the common brass (that is not a big deal to me).
Thanks

I think mine must be nylon. They are green and have what looks to be a long string of numbers printed on them that are about impossible to read. I can't remember for sure where I got them. Some place online that said they were actual surplus......Maybe Cheaper than Dirt. Whoever it was just called them Enfield slings that were new and unissued. But I didn't pay all that much for them and I never expected much when I ordered them.

These slings have steel hardware too.

Hello

I was under the impression that the green nylon slings were meant for the L1A1 SLR?
