Death of a great mate.

Post by Aughnanure » Mon Dec 16, 2013 12:19 am

Got home Sunday from five days in Brisbane (Queensland) to hear that my long time friend Bob Gaden had passed away last Saturday.
Bob had been platoon corporal when I was posted to the Signals Platoon, 3rd Bn. Royal Australian Regiment, in February 1954.

He immediately took us 'reos' under his wing and showed us how to apply our new knowledge in the real world and guided us around the pitfalls of life in Korea in the winter. Like not pissing in the snow at the back of the tent, the next morning the RSM rounded up the culprits from other tents and they had to pick up their 'offerings' and dispose of them in the latrine and as far as the RSM was concerned that was punishment enough; no one re-offended. :)

Of late years Bob had to go to a nursing home he was a keen target shooter and hunter and very active on the political scene having been one of the founders of the local Target and Hunting club and a moving force in the re-activation of our centre fire range.

He'll be missed.
