Are you actually surprised we didn't agree. I seem to remember that the German s were responsible for the war :roll: :roll:

You are right Duncan. That was the British point of view.

I think there was a news story before about how the British were determined to bring the war to a close with "victory" and dictate the terms of the German surrender. For the Germans to suggest a peace agreement with a return to status antebellum would only be evidence that the allies were on track to win....even though with the trench warfare bloodbath it was hard to judge winning up to then. The British and French felt, more than strongly, that the Germans must pay a price. None of this let's pretend nothing happened stuff and just quit.

Just as important as Germany admitting defeat was the dismantling of the German military and a shattering of a German economy that would otherwise be able to produce another Army.

Back in the US the reaction was mixed. Henry Ford, the rich industrialist peace advocate reacted as one would expect.

For a great industrialist Ford was rather naive I think.
