That was an awful bloodbath. Read that there will be some money spent this year on events marking the battle, including dramatic readings and plays and ceremonies on site and token badges made of mud. British Royalty will be making speeches near the site of the start of the battle. Much of the money is said to have come from fines to British banks and other financial institutions over the great financial implosion of 2008 or there about.

In the news now days is a movie about Dunkirk in WWII and I couldn't help noticing the numbers of British troops along with some French evacuated at Dunkirk approximate the number of British troops that were killed at Passchendaele....only a few tens of thousands less. What a hell it must have been to only gain about 8 miles of mud.
