This reminds me of a fellow that makes speeches and gets awards largely related to his story involving his assignment to the infantry company I was attached to in Vietnam. He seems to have convinced himself of the truth of his lie too in much the same way as this WWII guy. He now claims on his personal facebook page to have finished his "autobiography" and has a publisher who will publish it next year. He's not just anybody. He's been recognized as disabled veteran of the year by an assortment of high profile veterans, business and charitable organizations and has had been one of George Bush's "points of light" for his charitable efforts. He has been recently written up by an established fake warrior site that gets at the actual truth of his history, but his facebook page still has over a thousand loyal followers and none of them seem to be any wiser....or maybe care.

This guys story became visible to those who would know he is lying in many recorded public addresses when he had the nerve to post on a facebook page dedicated to his assigned battalion from Vietnam asking if anybody remembered him from his very short time in Vietnam. Then he proceeded to link a video of his general speech at a major event. Nobody remembered him...which he must have figured. But his problem started with the video. The story he told, recorded in front of a live audience, was totally questionable on several factual counts and a laugher for those who had been in the actual company or battalion. This started a long path to uncover as much of his real history as could be uncovered by a former platoon sergeant and former company commander. He was questioned by the former platoon sergeant over numerous non confrontational emails and the guy admitted his story had some major flaws in the face of recorded history that couldn't be bypassed.

I should have added the link to "It Ain't Hell but you can see it from here" site. The guy's name is Urban Miyares.

Note that he is blind now and he can surely tell a story entertainingly. The only problem is that there are guys who were in the company he claimed to have been with that never made it back to the world and never had a wife, children, careers, nor any accolades. And many others were actually wounded in combat, and some seriously, who are now pretty much unrecognized except among family and some close friends. Certainly none of the dead ever lied about their service... and probably few or none of the wounded did either. But this guy has profited one way of the other, more than once, with his fantasy tale and doesn't seem to see any harm in it and probably has convinced himself of it's truth by the many recitations of it.

Here is one of the few examples of his story left online. Maybe the only one left.

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3b55x8

Many of the online links of his speeches have been removed. The people at the American Airlines Skyball for veteran aid was the one that he first linked at the facebook site. They know of him now and deleted their online connections. The San Diego TV show that brought to light that he didn't amend his Vietnam story meaningfully as he came to advertise his coming biography has been removed from online as well. It remains to be seen what his autobiography states about his long recited primary speech material.

The case against him is pretty much over. When the 31st Regiment Association finally came around to supporting the accusations of a story that was impossible that was the last shoe to drop. The long string at my 6th of the 31st site going back to 2014 was moved to the members only forums and a simple statement linking to the It's Not Hell summation replaced it for anyone passing by to read. It was time to move on.

Oh..by the way. Miyares is writing a novel now. It's not like he didn't have practice writing fiction.
