Great story. Although the North Vietnamese forces were called NVA and "Charlie" was the mostly
local Viet Cong forces. And First Sgt. and Master Sgt. seem to be awfully high ranks to be
door gunners, obviously they were both lifers and that was their rank at retirement.
And the events they said happened in 1954, didn't happen until some time later.
This is the problem with foreigners writing about events they obviously know little about....

Mr Cox added: “There’s a bond between Marines that’s different from any other branch of service. We’re like brothers.”
Why is there some special "bond " between Marines different from any other service? Not saying there isn't one between Marines.... and certainly Marines talk that stuff. Just somehow makes me gag every time I read it someplace.

No problem with their bonding on New Years Eve going into 1969. Obviously on some firebase taking incoming. Must have scared the crap out of them...or so they say. Wonder if that was the worst thing that happened to them in Vietnam?

I think the Navy has a reputation for not being admirers of the Marine brotherhood either. Might have something to do with Marines being stationed on battleships and being in charge of policing the Navy crew.
