Falling asleep on guard

Post by Niner » Wed Feb 28, 2018 11:58 am

Saw this in a newspaper from a hundred years ago. Seems some soldiers were discovered asleep in the line of battle. It's not stated the details of how they were discovered or what their direct orders were at the time....but.... the consequences looked pretty severe.

I remember once in Vietnam I was on watch in a rice paddy overgrown and uncultivated. My watch was up and I couldn't find the guy I was supposed to wake up to replace me. I figured it was only another hour or so until dawn and I could last it. Well, the next thing I remember I was being shaken and it was dawn. The guy shaking me said he had been talking to me for a few minutes and my eyes were wide open the whole time. But I was sound asleep with my eyes open.
