St Patrick's day and Father Duffy of the Fighting 69th

Post by Niner » Fri Mar 16, 2018 10:55 pm

Saw this notice in a New York paper from a hundred years ago. Ft. Duffy of the fighting 69th was erroneously reported as wounded. Pat O'brien played the part in the movie. I went to Google Earth. Our Savior Catholic Church still exists on the same corner in the Bronx. Only... the congregation is now made up of immigrants from Puerto Rico and Mexico. I don't think the congregation will be marching in the St Patrick Day parade this year.

And among the notices on the site:
Electric chair in our parish!
March 21, 2017
We have good news; This past week they have finally installed the electric chair for all the parishioners that can't go up the stairs properly.
True to reputation for natives of New York :loco:
