A friend of mine sent me a link to a site that gave a short history of the Vietnam conflict. One thing that surprised me was this bit of news on how the NG's were armed at Kent State. Hit the rifle picture in the row of boxes.

I would have figured by May of 1970 they would have at least had the hand me down M14's from the regular Army.

Really though, I think alot of the NG's had them. In NM about that time ,the NG was looking for a Land Right's activist who shot up the Tierra Amarilla County courthouse and burned the old land grant paperwork... ( Kinda like the Joe Kidd movie w/ Eastwood ) .
They NG still had Garands and still had those M48 tank chassis with the twin Bofors 40mm's on them. They drove around Carson Nat Forest looking for this guy and his cohorts. If they had used those 40's I think they would have burned the forest down.
