Another Dowdy story

Post by Aughnanure » Mon Mar 06, 2006 4:24 am

Just remembered this for some reason.

Colonel Dowdy was known as "Howdy Dowdy" (but not in his hearing) and this came about because one night he chanced upon a sentry who didn't challenge him.

The following brief conversation is said to have taken place:

"What are you doing, lad?"

"I'm on guard, mate".

"Do you know who I am?"

"No, mate".

"WELL I'M DOWDY"

"Well, howdy Dowdy".

14 days 'Confined to barracks' was the luckless one's reward.

Eoin.
