This was my third and final stint. 2 years this time with 10 days out of every 30 spent on the border in Crossmaglen, South Armagh. the other 20 days were either onstandby or other ops. I was in recce pln so we did all the OP work.

Same again but the last winter there. new rifles and helmets, goretex coats but still the same problems!
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy!

Very nostalgic post 151, enjoyed your photos.

What are your feelings about the recent amalgamation of the LI with the other Infantry Battalions to form The Rifles? I saw the new badges on the guards at Vimy Bks. yesterday. Still the Light Infantry bugle and crown but no red flash.

Rifles website here.....

A sad day, no doubt in 20 years when they change again there will be whole generations of ex riflemen moaning the same. I have tried to organise a get together down here for all ex members of the founding regiments that formed the Rifles. Beer and curry once every couple of months but I am waiting on a job offer in Oz so I may only get to one!
