Looks like a lot of M1 carbines in that group. And one guy on the left looks to have an 03 Springfield even. Could it be they were some kind of support element? MP's maybe or engineers?
This is somewhere back down the line from the first wave from a view of the beach in the distance with activity and landing vehicles in place. I wonder what unit these guys were in and if they had some specific task assigned to them.
