i forgot we had outside of usa on here. did you get up to speed? i have never heard it called anything but ..... wore them with dress greens.... brown water navy wore black beret. we also were issued a "donald duck hat" that was only worn when in boston massachusats. never wore it while in navy. it looked like cow pat hat but was navy blue and on ribbon it said U.S.Navy...

I alwqays thought the c--caps looked awful, I always wore the service/saucer/bus driver hat.
They didn't issue them in basic, but I got one right after. The one in my basic photo had elastic in the back of the headband and everyone wore the same hat for the photos.

Vern, you inspired me to go looking for this snapshot I had sent home way back then. Notice the official issue .... garrison.... hat.

This picture was taken in basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia. It was taken right after most of a day with plenty of PT and assorted other physical activity. Each guy getting his picture took..in turn... put on one of several choices of different size khaki shirts after removing fatigue uniform tops long enough for the photos. There were a couple of sizes of hats too. This was in about July of 69.

My basic was Aug & Sept 1967 at Ft Lewis, WA, doubt if it ever got warm enough there to wear khakis... :mrgreen:
