A most interesting read which I can highly recommend for anyone with an interest in WWI. It can also be used as a spot reference book.

Yes, I remember using "fuse delay" quite a bit. And when firing them, it was a regular point
detonation fuse that had a screw head on the side of the fuse that you gave a 1/4 turn for the
delay. But if I remember correctly, the delay was only about 1/4 second or less.
And why a delay fuse when practice shooting at mountainside, whole thing sounds fishy to me...... ;)

And speaking of books...... Just got this in the mail, haven't even had a chance to look at it yet.
A big book, 11" x 10" x 1"+ thick and a LOT of photos. The VFW was selling them, actually ordered it
several months ago and they finally got them printed.

I never knew how long a delay there was but it was enough to bury the round into the ground before it exploded. Maybe the story in the paper wasn't even real...or the gun crew actually weren't very good at deflection numbers and the projectile bouncing off the mountain was just a lie. It was a long time ago in any case. Whatever. And we'll never know the name of the white ladies maid either.

Send the "Sammies" plenty of free tobacco. They can't smoke those European cigarettes. Makes them sick. Buying soldiers tobacco is a big national charity project.... but nobody will sell them a drink in the US or over seas. .. it's sinful and unhealthy as well as might make them drunk! Just healthy smoking for our boys. What they are doing in New York as an example.

Pope proposes peace suggestion. Nobody is buying it. The allies think Pope is shill for Austria and Germany.

Well....at least no neo-Nazi's or KKK members....nor militia members. And for sure....no statues of Robert E. Lee.

A German language newspaper in Detroit goes against the tide in an editorial cartoon. The US hadn't killed anybody yet and had gone to a lot of trouble to get ready for it. The US wasn't in any mood for any peace talk. It wanted to kill some Germans right along with France, England and the rest of the Triple Entente.
