A US troop transport is torpedoed. But... it doesn't go down like a rock and life boats are launched and convoy ships come to help out. Newspapers in the US have a hard time agreeing on the totals of how many died and how many saved. One paper.... just said pretty much.... hell.... 90% of the people on board didn't die!

On the sinking of the troop transport the day before...

This is so sappy it has to be made up.

I wonder who sang La Marseillaise and did the U Boat surface and give them all Deutschlandlied

Since My Country Tis of Thee and God Save the King both have the same melody it would have been interesting if the British crew and the American Troops all sang at the same time.

Combat pay and General Pershing doesn't favor the fly boys. No wonder the Air Force became a separate force after world war round two.

Russia pulling out is a big deal as far as utilization of manpower.

It suddenly comes to him...we need more chaplains. So the head war general asks for some. One for each 1200 men should do the trick. He doesn't seem to care that there are a lot of religions in the Army. And there are a lot of subdivisions of religions. Some actually hate each other. A Southern Baptist sure wouldn't want a Catholic Priest giving him the last rights. And that would go double for a Jew.

The Army never changed down to my day. The senior Drill Sergeant balked at my filling in the religion space on the paper work for dog tags with "NONE". He fixed it though. He put in "No Preference". I'd let anybody pray over me if I was breathing my last and anybody bothered to read my tags. True leader that E 8. And..... it would have worked for me actually. I would really have favored "Phenomenological Existentialist". But it wouldn't have fit on the tag anyway.

My dog tags say that too. Over the years I have pissed off more than one "churchy person"
by telling them I'm a "devout no preference", when they asked my religion .......

And those employment forms that ask who to call in an emergency. I always put "Paramedics",
because my wife didn't know shit about saving lives.............
