That helicopter looks a lot like a Huey with the middle section cut out and welded back together again. Why not fly over your estate and take some photos? If you ever want to sell the house you could use them in the advertisement. Or.....use in the advertisement of your rental vacation home.

A friend just told me;

Definition of a helicopter:-
A helicopter is 10,000 totally unrelated moving parts, bent on self destruction, flying in relatively close formation.

And piloted by a guy that hasn't a fear in the world no matter how close he comes to trees and power lines or what the down drafts are doing as he speeds through the air at roof top level. Have fun Duncan. See if he will let you sit on the floor with your legs from the knee down dangling. Great for photo taking. No glass to shoot through...just air.

MERDE!

We are sorry to have to announce the cancellation of your helicopter air baptism scheduled for Sunday, April 8 at the Citadel of Blaye.
Due to a case of force majeure beyond our control, flights can not be insured.

I just got a message from a friend of mine who is from one of the Châteaux at this weekends Wine fair.

The reason for the cancellation is that the helicopter that was to be used on Sunday has crashed killing the pilot and one other, also a pilot. Both men apparently had logged many flying hours. It happened yesterday morning.

That wasn't an auto rotate down because of engine failure but an actual crash it looks like to me. I saw one smashed up like that once. It was on an extraction one morning after a night contact. A gunship slick was making passes over some tall skinny trees and coming real close to the tree tops right in front of and over us preparatory to the troop slicks coming in one at a time to extract us . On it's finial pass the runners...or something on the chopper...made contact with one of the tree tops and the chopper went nose down into what was knee deep swamp water. Smashed like an egg on a sidewalk maybe 50 meters from where I was standing. The engine was loud and at a higher rpm sound for all of two or three seconds after the crash and then all was quiet. The wreckage was almost unrecognizable as to what it had been seconds before.

Well ...better luck next time on winning a flight Duncan. What's the odds of the same company crashing a second chopper in the same area? That crash is almost a statistical guarantee the next flight will be a good one.
