My M95 in 8x56R

My M95 in 8x56R
This is the rifle that uses the 8x56R in my post on the ammo forum. I have had this for about 15 years now. It was full of grease when I got it. I don't think it had been used since conversion to 8x56R. There were no marks on the action from the bolt until I started using it. All the numbers match, including the front barrel band. The bolt has been electropencilled with the number, presumeably when converted. The stock has a lined out number on one side and the matching number on the other side, so it is a reused stock. Ammunition was a problem when I first got the rifle as there wasn't any. I bought 20 Betram cases and a set of dies from NDFS. Shortly after that expence, I found a dealer at one of the pistol meetings at Bisley selling the ammo at £18 a hundred. It is now £25 a hundred. I have kept topped up on ammo since then as it is good stuff, though I have used it sparingly as I suppose it will not be available for ever. Now a local dealer has it, even better, as I can use the rifle a bit more. Anyway, a few pictures.

The original acceptance mark (1917) overstamped by the large S which denotes conversion to 8x56R from 8x50R. It was just a rechambering job. Some rifles got new barrels, mine didn't. The bore is still sharp and bright.

The bolt to the rear to show that it really is a straight pull rifle.

I like this rifle. I will probably take this to the Trafalgar Meeting this year. I shot it in a couple of rapid comps once. The best I got off was 18 rounds in a minute, starting empty. No rounds to strip off a charger, just insert the whole clip and away you go.
This rifle was one of a batch of about a dozen that the dealer had, all full of grease. The others would have sadley gone to the deact market. At least I managed to save one of them.
Regards
Peter.

Good picture story
Good looking rifle. My rifle happens to have been made in 1917 too. But mine has a stock that looks like oak.
In the US the carbine version is most easily found. I got my rifle from a gun show a number of years ago and my carbine from Century a few years after.
I shoot both of mine every once in a great while, but, I find that the sights are hard to see and not set for our usual 100 yard ranges here in the states. And, both of them kick like a mule as they are light weight for the power of the cartridge.

No plans to sell it yet Joe...
...but if you want to dispose of that old No5 you have, I would take it off your hands.
