Milsurp After Hours

I traded some stuff years ago with a guy who found his grandfather's bring backs in the attic. Amongst the buttons and badges were some cartridges. This is one of them.

Not particularly rare or valuable, but it is a genuine souvenir and I can imagine. I think that it is neat.

8mm French Lebel? 1908 dated?

Looks like the primer has an off center ding in it like something struck it.....as well as another less deep. Maybe the bullet end of another round?

Ya, I always thought it a bit dodgy putting spire point center fire bullets nose to tail in a tube magazine.

The old .35 Remington Game Master pump action is a common hunting rifle for deer around here, they used centerfire cartridges, but their tube mag had a spiral twist fluted so bullet did not rest on the primer of the cartridge in front of it.

The later 8mm Lebel cartridges had a groove in the case head around the primer to take the point of the bullet when used in the tubular magazine of the Lebel rifle. The clip fed Berthier rifles were OK with the case head as shown.
