Other nearby towns are Shelby, 35 miles, Conrad 50 miles and Valier 25 miles. Valier may have some bed and breakfast but no motels.
Here is a Google Map to the Range. The range doesn't look like that now, and won't look like it does now in June.

Re: Victorian Rifleman Shoot
Here's the directions to the range.
First follow your map-GPS-instinct to Cut Bank MT.
From the EAST (I-15-Shelby) Go to the traffic light and turn right-north .
From the WEST go to the traffic light and turn left-north.
From the NORTH, if you see this, stop and turn around and go back North, you missed the first turn.
From the traffic light go north 2.3 miles to Lahr Road. Olson Road is on the left, west. Lahr Road is on the right east.
If you are coming from the North this is where you should have turned instead of going on into town. Lahr Road is on the left, east. Olson Road is on the right west.
Turn East on Lahr Road.
Go 3 miles east on Lahr Road to the T intersection with Meadowbrook Road.
Turn left-north on Meadowbrook Road and go 1 mile to Hope Road.
Turn right-east on Hope road and go 1 mile to the Cut Bank Sportsman Club.

Re: Victorian Rifleman Shoot
That sounded so familiar about the traffic light. I grew up in a small town like that with one stoplight.
Any one giving directions always started with, "From the stoplight go..........."
Vern.

Peace is that brief, quiet moment in history.......... when everybody stands around reloading.

In Blaye, where we live there are no traffic lights at all!

Re: Victorian Rifleman Shoot
With all those wide open spaces out West, why are the small towns built with buildings shoulder to shoulder and right up to the road with only a sidewalk between the road and the buildings? In the South there are not only trees, grass, and scrubs, but there is an official committee in most small towns and cities to pass judgement on any new construction plan to be sure it inludes enough of such natural orniment. And if any business is caught removing trees or large bushes they are fined and made to replant. And you could face serious problems if you cut down a 150 year old oak.
Of course, Montana is not all that plant friendly I guess..... hot summers, frozen winters, not much variety in plant life of the native variety too I'd imagine. Traffic light count is probably a mark of progress and local pride.

Re: Victorian Rifleman Shoot
It's and itty bitty little town out in the middle of the Prairie. Those buildings were probably built in the 1920's during the oil boom on either side of the two track gravel road. Most of them are empty, but not abandonded. These little towns don't have new business and industry building moving in in. The last new construction in town was the Motel built about 10 years ago and it was probably 10 or 15 years before that when the County annex and new Post Office was built.. Okay wait they did build a new 2 lane highway bridge over Cut Bank Creek three years ago to replace the bridge built back in the 20's.
Cut Bank has a McDonald, Pizza Hut and Subway Sandwich shop. Subway is bigger than McDonalds. The Mall has a Ben Franklin Variety store, Drug Store, Dollar store and Western wear clothing store, and Casino-Cafe. There are several other Casino's and two hometown cafes and fair share of bars down town. The Newspaper come out every wednesday. There are three gas station in town.
Cut Bank Map
Nearest Wal-Mart is in Great Falls, 108 miles. Next closest town is Shelby 34 miles east. Shelby is in the next county and there is no traffic light in that county.
This out here is not Urbana like I saw in most place east of the Mississippi, but true rural America. Take a good look at the map I linked.
Life is so laid back and quiet here, not like the rush and hubbub of places where I have lived like northern Virginia or Durban, South Africa. I retired and moved to Cut Bank from Durban.

Re: Victorian Rifleman Shoot
That reminds me. I knew a couple of former South Africans who worked at a car dealership. One of them said when he took a customer on a test drive, and he told the customer to take a right at the "robot", as a matter of habit, the customer had no idea he meant a traffic light.

Dang!
That looks like fun!
Brenda and I were actually just kicking around the idea of maybe moving up into that country.
I'll have to have her look at the pics for future reference.
