A friend of mine in Illinois has long lamented the tough gun laws in his state. Today he can feel like Illinois joined most of the other states on a more equitable gun law structure. Now, for the first time, concealed carry permits are possible in Illinois. But more interesting is the further judgement that, in Chicago, law abiding citizens no longer are required to register their weapons. The mayor is upset of course, but since the registration hadn't made much of an effect in a city with more shooting deaths than Afghanistan, I don't think there will much push back.
