More UK firearm restrictions

Post by PeterN2 » Thu Oct 19, 2017 6:04 pm

The Home Office has been working overtime on proposals to define an antique firearm and also ban private possession of the .50 Browning rifles and Manually Activated Release System rifles. These are a rifle that ejects the case but holds the bolt back until it is released by a pull second pull on the trigger or by a separate lever. These are known as Lever Release rifles. The Home Office view these as an attempt to get around the semi auto ban. Not one of these rifles that are legally held have ever featured in a crime. However, the Home Office view is that they may get stolen and due to the power of the .50 Browning and rapid fire rate of the others they present a risk to the public. This, of course, is a load of nonsense.
They also want to ban mail order of knives and make mere possession of some types of knife, even if kept at home, a criminal offense. The fact that the vast majority of knife crime is carried out with kitchen knives doesn't seem to matter to them.
If I were a young man, I think I would be looking to live somewhere else.
Regards
Peter.

I didn't know about the lever release firearms. Interesting notion that somebody came up with..... even if it seems to be about like adding a fifth leg to a horse.

That lever release rifle looks like the UK version of the bump stock we have.
And I'm guessing they will both go the way of the Dodo......

Well, the ban on .50 Calibre rifles has been dropped from the bill going through parliament for further consultations so they are safe for now. The MARS and lever release rifles are, however, going to be banned and will be collected from the legal owners and destroyed. Compensation will be paid. Due to registration, the police know who has them so no chance of anyone hiding one under the floorboards. These are a type of rifle that has never featured in a single crime in the UK. The authorities do not like them as they say they can fire too rapidly and if a criminal got hold of one they could cause more death and destruction than if they used a bolt action rifle. This is a load off garbage. They simply view these rifles as a cheat on the semi-auto ban so don’t like them. Another nail in the coffin of firearms ownership in the UK.

Peter.
