The President's Plan and Curio and Relic auto weapons

Some of his plan is a lot of polishing up of existing law. His executive orders are all pretty much a case of lipstick on the pig we already have. The big changes ...like banning anything that resembles an "assault rifle" and limiting magazines to 10 rounds and other odds and ends of more crusading gun fear proposals will have to have Congressional approval. One proposal that has not been highlighted pertains to the C&R holders among us. I suspect you can forget about semi-auto military Curio and Relics if this notion passes Congress. There go the M1 Garands and Carbines and SKS's and you name it of a large assortment of Curio and Relics by today's present laws.

The particular provision:
• Eliminate restrictions that force the ATF to authorize importation of dangerous
weapons simply because of their age: ATF is required to authorize the importation of
certain “curio or relic” firearms, and outdated regulations include all firearms manufactured more
than 50 years ago in the definition of “curio or relic.” But today, firearms manufactured more than
50 years ago include large numbers of semiautomatic military-surplus rifles, some of which are
easily convertible into machine guns or otherwise appealing for use in crime. Congress should
get rid of restrictions that prevent ATF from changing this definition, enabling ATF to ensure
that firearms imported as curios or relics are actually of interest as collectibles, rather than letting
these rules be used as a way to acquire fully functional and powerful military weapons.
The only hopeful thing is that since it looks like Congress would have to pass this resolution to make it law , I don't think it's going to happen. It particularly won't happen if we let our representatives know we are concerned.
