Duncan, the Fat Bastard tasted a lot like kerosene smells.
Vern, if I could remember what kind of California wine I bought a year ago I'd buy again for the next such gathering. I wish I had written it down. The couple of different bottles I bought went over fine. Guests were willing to take home what was left in the bottles, even.

I certainly didn't RECOMMEND the Fat Bastard
As to the other - I think you will find that it isn't as 'smoky' as current Californian whites

I know you didn't suggest it. I just liked the name.

I doubt it, Vern. Frenchmen don't seem to make beer...or at least for export. Just thinking about it.... there must be beer from nearly every country under the sun in the US....but can't remember any French beer.

Re: French wine in an American grocery store
Looks like Kronenbourg is the number one French beer... now part of a bevy of beers marketed by a conglomerate in Denmark. From the online dictionary of words used as Urban slang for Kronenbourg.
TOP DEFINITION
kronenbourg
A word used to describe a lady who looks great from behind, but has a face like a chopping board. Taken from the popular drink of Kings, Kronenbourg 1664 as she is 16 at the back and 64 at the front. Also bobfoc
"Damn that ass looks good"
"nah bruv, she's a kroney"
Number Two:
A nasty cheap French beer, that comes in pathetically small bottles. Drunk by people who obviously have never tried real beer
'I'll have a beer please'
*Recieves kronenbourg*
'No, I said beer, not yaks piss'

Re: French wine in an American grocery store
1664 is a well distributed beer in France and despite what some little twat said in No.2 is a good drink.
That description sounds more like Schlitz to me - and I know, I had to suffer it in Detroit and Chicago.......
We are currently enjoying Beer d'Noel on draft. 5.5-6.5% and very warming.

Re: French wine in an American grocery store
I'll look for some French beer next time I'm at the grocery.
And yes..... Schlitz was good. Then it was bad. Then it was really bad. Then... I think now... it may not exist any longer.
