2009 Les Caillards

Post by DuncaninFrance » Thu Apr 21, 2011 5:04 am

Made by a winegrower who has vines all around our house, this was bottled last week and all the production sold to a négociant (merchant) We asked if we could buy a case ( 6 bottles ) and the owner came round yesterday afternoon with them.
It is a 2009 red, 14%, and will lay down for a long time - possibly 20 years. Price was 30€ / 41AUD/$44 for 6 bottles which I think is a bargain

Our house is probably all that is left of the original Château Les Caillards.

A good buy indeed, Duncan.

How long is it really going to lie down though?

What? No expiration date? Wonder if Wine in the US has an expiration date stamped on the label some place like everything else made for human consumption? Have to look when I go to the grocery store today. Of course I'll actually be buying beer instead of wine and whatever I buy will be gone before getting anywhere near its expiration date.

But, Duncan, won't you be tempted to open a bottle every 12 months "just to see how it's going"?

You'll need another half dozen!

Wow, just over $7 a bottle for a nice Bordeaux from grapes around your home, AND it has a picture of your house on the label, how cool is that.
Maybe if I'm in your neighborhood in 10 years we'll have a glass.
